STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

Accommodation must be pre-approved by the school prior to enrolment to ensure it complies with The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021

Living With A Parent

Living with a parent as an international school student can be a supportive and practical arrangement for many families.

For the student, having a parent live with them can ease the transition to a new environment. It provides emotional stability, daily supervision, and helps ensure the student stays focused on their studies.

This option can be especially beneficial for our younger students who may not be ready to live away from family.

It also allows parents to be more involved in the student’s academic progress and well-being. However, families must plan carefully, as this may require additional visas.

If you are accompanying your child in NZ we need your NZ contact details (address and phone number) prior to starting school.  We do not provide homestay accommodation for parents staying with children, so you will need to rent suitable accommodation nearby for yourself and your child.

If you have chosen the ‘Live with Parent’ option, parents must live with their child for the entire duration of their studies

Living With A Designated Caregiver

A designated caregiver for an international student is a responsible adult who has been officially appointed to care for the student while they are studying abroad. This caregiver is usually a family friend or relative approved by the student’s parents and the school. The role of the designated caregiver includes providing a safe and supportive living environment, overseeing the student’s daily well-being, and maintaining communication with the school and the student’s parents.

Living With A Homestay

Choosing a homestay provides a uniques opportunity for cultural immersion, support, and a sense of “home away from home” while adapting to a new environment.  It provides a secure and supportive system for our international students, especially those living away from home for the first time.  Living with a host family is a great way to experience a new culture authentically and improve language skills.

Our homestay families are carefully selected from within our local community, and to ensure your child is in a safe living environment, the school personally does a home assessment and all adults in the homestay undergo police checks.  Whilst not always guaranteed, we endeavour to place your child in a home with another student from Northcote Intermediate.

Homestay accommodation is for students only.  Visiting family and friends need to organise their own accommodation elsewhere.
